Register a Boat in Delaware
In order to get your Delaware boating license, you will need to take an approved boater safety course and know the DE boating laws. If you decide to purchase your own boat, you will also need to apply for your Delaware boat registration. All motor boats in the state of Delaware are to be registered, and a copy of your boat registration card must be kept onboard at all times.

Take an instructor-led safe boating class near you or sign up for an online class so that you know the laws pertaining to boat registration, Delaware boating license requirements, navigation, required emergency equipment, and regulatory zones or speed regulations.
IT’S NOT A FEE, IT’S A CONTRIBUTION
Boat registration is important in helping to identify lost or stolen boats and vessels in need of assistance. When you register your boat, the registration fees are applied to natural resource protection, educational programs, launch ramp maintenance, and safety initiatives.
DELAWARE BOAT REGISTRATION INFORMATION
- Vessels equipped with any type of motor must be registered in Delaware if principally used more than 60 days in the state.
- Any vessel that is used or moored on Delaware waterways, including private lakes, must be registered.
- All motor boats launched from tidal access areas administered by the Division of Fish & Wildlife must be registered in Delaware or have a valid ramp certificate available from the Division or its 16 authorized agents located throughout the state.
